Causes of Roof Leaks
Damaged Shingles
One of the most recurrent causes of roof leaks is missing or damaged shingles. These covers can wear off over time due to harsh weather conditions, leading to cracks, breaks, or curls. Storms, high winds, and hail can accelerate this process and leave the roof prone to leaks. Look for tar under the roof; this is a sure sign that the shingle is broken.
N.B. It is not possible to repair a single shingle; replacement is the only option.
Flashing Issues
Flashing is used to seal joints and prohibit water ingress in different areas of the roof, such as chimneys, vents, and skylights. If flashing becomes loose or corroded, it can create openings for water to seep through, causing leaks.
